At the end of Section 26.2 in Understanding Physics the fact that the conductivity of semiconductors varies with temperature is explained.  In fact, with appropriate doping, semiconductors can be fabricated such that the temperature coefficient of resistance can be either positive or negative.  This gives rise to very sensitive temperature measuring devices thar have multiple applications.  For more detasils see the Wikipedia entry on .
