We are delighted to celebrate the winners of our Graphics Competition, showcasing the beauty of stochastic science through visualisation:
First place (pictured) — Erwin Luesink (University of Amsterdam)
A striking visualisation of stochastic dynamics on Lie groups, capturing trajectories of kinetic Langevin processes on curved spaces — where geometry and randomness intertwine.
Second place — Carlos Escudero (UNED, Madrid)
A powerful illustration of stochastic radial growth, revealing how randomness alone can shape structure and drive pattern formation in evolving systems.
These works beautifully highlight how complex mathematical ideas can be made visible, offering new intuition into stochastic phenomena.
Congratulations to our winners — and thank you to all participants for an inspiring collection of submissions!

Graphics Competition 2026
For the first instance of what we hope will become an annual event competition, participants were invited to submit one original image related to their research and a short description explaining the mathematical background, relevance, and significance of the image.
This initiative aims to:
-
Celebrate the aesthetic dimension of stochastic mathematics.
-
Build a visually engaging website that reflects the STOCHASTICA community;
-
Create a lasting visual resource for communication and public outreach.
The submissions were exhibited at the
STOCHASTICA Directions Workshop in April 2026, and may be viewed in our
gallery of mathematical art.
