Postgraduate researcher presents at international astrophysics workshop

Postgraduate student Lee Whitaker recently presented her research at the Massive Black Hole Spin Workshop held at the Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics in Edinburgh. The workshop brought together experts in astrophysics to explore the role of black hole spin in cosmic phenomena. Lee鈥檚 participation highlights the strong international engagement of UCC鈥檚 postgraduate researchers.

The School of Physics is pleased to highlight a recent achievement by Dr Christopher A. Broderick, whose latest research paper has been published in Physical Review Materials and selected as an Editor鈥檚 Suggestion. Editor鈥檚 Suggestions are awarded to a small number of papers that are identified by journal editors as particularly important, innovative, or impactful within their field. This recognition reflects both the quality of the research and its significance to the wider materials physics community.

Physics student wins international poster prize at UPCON 2026

Advanced Optical Materials Poster Prize at the UPCON 2026, held in Brno. Francesca鈥檚 award-winning poster, titled 鈥淲avefront shaping with non-linear feedback from upconverting nanoparticles for biomedical applications,鈥 was recognised for its innovation and potential impact in the field of optical imaging and biophotonics. The prize was sponsored by Wiley鈥檚 journal Advanced Optical Materials, highlighting outstanding contributions from early-career researchers.
