School of Chemistry Transition Year Programme
The School of Chemistry Transition Year (TY) activities take place every year towards the end of April. This week of activities is designed to provide students with an understanding of the diversity of programmes offered by the school, ranging from Forensic, Pharmaceutical, Analytical, Organic, Physical, and Inorganic Chemistry.
This diversity is showcased through a variety of engaging activities, including workshops, laboratory tours, and hands-on experiments. The week also features discussions on career opportunities and highlights how our chemistry programmes can open pathways to research and professional careers across multiple fields.
To give you a flavour of the TY programme, last year鈥檚 activities included sessions on Green and Sustainable Chemistry practices, demonstrations of a Lab-in-a-Suitcase for forensic applications, analytical experiments, career discussions, and hands-on organic chemistry experiments.
Please note that the activities vary from year to year, and the final programme will be published closer to the event date.
TY Week 2026
The School of Chemistry at 晚上福利在线观看 Cork hosted a Transition Year (TY) Science Programme, bringing together 24 secondary school students from 18 schools across Cork and the wider Munster region. The programme provided participants with a full day of immersive, hands-on laboratory experience, guided by academic staff, technical officers, and postgraduate researchers. Activities were designed to reflect the full breadth of modern chemistry, spanning six themed areas:
- Sustainability and Green Chemistry
- Analytical Chemistry
- Spectroscopy
- Organic Chemistry
- Batteries and Energy Storage
- Forensic Chemistry
All 24 students demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day. Participants asked thoughtful questions, approached each experiment with curiosity and confidence, and responded positively to the university research environment. Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many students expressing interest in pursuing science at third level.
