Cork city lights up with 'Here The Queer Appear' public light installation

On Saturday 2 May, audiences are invited to experience Here the Queer Appear, a participatory public artwork by , UCC School of Film, Music and Theatre, created with and for the LGBTQI+ community of Cork City.
This project is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Circus Factory, Gay Project and ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork.
This artwork is part of the wider project, Hear the Queer Appear, which explores new ways to represent and celebrate the diversity of LGBTQI+ identities in Cork and surrounding areas.
The project unfolds across 3 registers:
- Three public light installations
- Six audio-based promenades,
- A final collaborative live theatrical circus performance.
Together, these offer multiple ways to take part, allowing individuals to choose how they are represented in public space.
Register A - Here the Queer Appear, involves a series of outdoor light installations with an upcoming installation scheduled for the Atlantic Pond on Saturday, 2 May. The series began at Bell’s Field on 17 April and Bishop Lucey Park on 27 April.
Each light in the Here the Queer Appear installation represents a member of the LGBTQI+ community who has chosen to take part by signing up anonymously online.
There is no formal beginning or end, visitors are welcome to arrive at any point during the installations and see it for themselves.
