Lockdowns imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on the gut microbiome development of babies born during these periods according to new research from APC Microbiome Ireland (APC), a world leading SFI Research Centre, based in ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences and Children’s Health Ireland.

A researcher at APC Microbiome Ireland (APC), a world-leading SFI funded research centre based at ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork (UCC), has received significant funding from a US based charity to investigate treatments for some of the deadliest brain tumours.

A team of Irish and UK researchers, led by a ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork (UCC) scientist at APC Microbiome Ireland SFI Research Centre, have been granted a prestigious Wellcome Trust Discovery Award of €5.3 million to investigate the leading global cause of fatal bloodstream infection.  

New publication The Gut-Brain Axis Dietary, Probiotic, and Prebiotic Interventions on the Microbiota 2nd edition, has been published by Elsevier/ Academic Press, and edited by researchers Dr Niall P. Hyland and Prof Catherine Stanton from APC Microbiome Ireland, a world leading SFI Research Centre, ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork and Teagasc. The authors presented a copy of the book to Coral Black, University Librarian at ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork, where it can be accessed as a resource in the library for students and researchers.

A series of five research publications on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) by APC Microbiome Ireland, a world-leading SFI Research Centre, yields new data regarding the implications of antibiotic use in early life and the effects of antibiotics in standard dry cow therapy.

Study by APC Microbiome Ireland SFI Research Centre at ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork reveals the virome is a viable treatment option to restore the microbiome-gut-brain axis during stress. The findings pave the way for new treatments for stress-related disorders.

The CLEAR training network was launched in Copenhagen on Monday 15^th January 2024. The project is coordinated by Professor Hanne Ingmer of the University of Copenhagen. The principal investigators met for two days to plan the research programme.

In a noteworthy celebration of inclusivity, APC Director Prof Paul Ross presented certificates of participation to Research Assistants with Down Syndrome for their contribution to the field of microbiome science. The ceremony also served as a public acknowledgment of the critical role played by these individuals in the research process. 

Christmas is a highly enjoyable social time for many but for those with social anxiety disorder it can be a nightmare. Now new research from APC Microbiome Ireland (APC) at ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork (UCC) has discovered that the microbes in the gut may be playing a key role in Social Anxiety Disorder.

An Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Mr. Micheál Martin, T.D. launched a 20 Years Impact brochure for APC Microbiome Ireland (APC) a world leading SFI Research Centre based in ÍíÉϸ£ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Cork and Teagasc at a celebration event to mark the 20th anniversary of APC.
