The delegation included vice rectors, policy makers, academic and professional services staff, and students, representing a number of institutions and organisations, including Universidade do Porto, Universidade de Coimbra, Universidade do Minho, and others.
The visit was led by Professor Manuel Jo茫o Costa, Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Minho, and Vice President of the Portuguese National Council for Innovation in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education. Professor Costa is also a member of the EUA Learning & Teaching Steering Committee and attended the EUA Learning & Teaching Forum 2025, hosted by OVPLT at UCC. Following that visit, he contacted OVPLT to express his interest in UCC鈥檚 approach and to explore the opportunity to bring a delegation to learn more from our work.
Established in 2025, the Portuguese National Council for Innovation in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education advises the Portuguese Minister for Education, Innovation and Science on future policy directions. This visit formed part of a broader national mission to learn from international exemplars of student success, with UCC identified as a key institution to visit.
The delegation engaged in presentations and discussions across the university and visited innovative learning spaces, including the Digital Scholarship Studio and the Science Studio. They also enjoyed a talk from this academic year's Translator in Residence, Tania Ganho.
We are very grateful to colleagues across the university whose generous support and engagement contributed to a rich and collegial visit.
